freelance film director who lived in Paris,
France. He made films for over 60 years and
collaborated with his son Mikaël as
cameraman for 25 years and his daughter
Gabrielle was the editor for his last 5 films.
Lubtchansky worked mainly for the cinema
and ARTE, the cultural television channel.
He was a longtime collaborator with theatre
director Peter Brook and was editor of
“Lord of the Flies” and Associate Producer
for “Meetings with Remarkable Men”.
For many years he dedicated his professional
and his personal life to the essential questions
of life and mankind using the medium of film.
In the winter of his life, Lubtchansky
concentrated on a series of films about
different religions called “Living Prayer”,
a project exploring the experience of prayer
in different traditions in order to keep alive
that which is at risk of disappearing.
This project is seen as a spiritual archive of
living masters, providing a sense of the
profound taste of the experience of ripened
prayer that is beyond teaching and more akin
to the experienced of prayer itself. The approach
is poetic, evocative and experiential, with the
great support of the natural world rather than
teaching or philosophical explanations.
